An Original Journey

Let's begin! Firstly, once the concept and design have been designed through rough drawings and resembles something near to where I want them, a prototype is drawn freehand. Corrections are highlighted, ready to work on the Altered Final Edit.

Once the final Edit has been drawn, the last few changes are identified before drawing onto Canvas. This is the fine tuning element of the design - its not ready until its right - a gut feeling within any artist!

With the final edit now drawn onto the canvas, the painting can begin! Colour choice is mostly intuitive, coming from a pre-perceived idea of what I want the final piece to look like.

Applied paint is then continually layered, manipulated, blended and caressed to reach their desired effect and aesthetic look.

Working on and coming back to individual elements within the piece as I go, always making sure that each aspect compliments the other to create a balanced composition.

Once the main features at the fore front of the piece are near completion, it's time to build up the composition by working on the background. As this particular piece was created to pay homage to Edvard Munch, the colour scheme and design have been mimicked from 'The Scream'.

As the background continues to develop, the application and design must ultimately support and finalise the entire composition, amplifying the foreground by adding depth.

Coming near to the end of the process of the piece, individual elements begin to get fine tuned to their desired, completed look.

With the very last element completed, in this case the reflective effect on the mirror, the piece is then finally signed in the bottom right, signifying the completion of an Original piece of work by JMW.Walker!

And there we have it - an insight of the process behind an Original!
